Chapter Sixteen…

Chapter 16: The Pregnancy Card. Yeah, you knew I had to play that card sooner or later, right? That’s part of the awesomeness of Sims, the pixelated characters’ infinite ability to breed… like… jackrabbits…

Another week passed since Lila’s discovery.

She met up with her mother and Roger at the Riverview Museum of Natural History. Of course, it was only inevitable that the questions begin.

“You’ve been so quiet today. Is anything wrong?” Audrey asked.

Lila was watching a display of exotic bugs, but turned around when her mother spoke.

“What’s wrong, Lila?” she asked again when Lila didn’t say anything. A flurry of emotions, resembling a tornado, twisted within her.

“Mom, I’m in the same boat as you now. The S.S. Baby-Oopsy,” she finally said.

“Lila, you’re pregnant?!” Audrey exclaimed.

Shhh,” Lila hushed, looking around in paranoia.

“I don’t want anyone to know. Anyone.”

“You mean you haven’t told Nick? But why?”

“Why? Because I don’t even know if I’m going to keep it or not!”

“But Lila, that’s my grandchild you’re speaking of,” Audrey bemoaned.

“Mom, I know. It’s just—I just got named MVP of the soccer team, and the coach offered to pay for surgery to correct my vision, and—and Nick’s divorce still isn’t final yet, and Travis… Travis doesn’t hate me anymore, but if he finds out about this, he might start hating me again! And Auna, I don’t want to hurt her. There’s just so much going on, and I don’t even know how Nick would take the news. I’m scared,” she rambled.

“You’ll just have to do what you think is right,” Audrey mumbled. She was obviously unhappy.

Lila sighed in frustration as her mother walked off.

God, please don’t let me walk like that whenever I get big, Lila thought, forgetting for a second about her problems. It looked as if her mother was going to topple over, not unlike those cheerleaders in Twinbrook.

After camping out in the bathroom for several minutes, Roger returned and greeted Audrey. Then he leaned down to ‘listen’ to her tummy. Would Nick be that kind of wonderful expectant father? Lila wondered. Or would he hate me for getting pregnant?

Watch out, Roger. Your head might get stuck (if it isn’t already). Listening to your unborn son could be very dangerous…

Although not nearly as dangerous as Doris Moore as she hid behind a mock Stonehenge display, having heard every shocking word Lila just said.

Nevertheless, nightfall fell onto Riverview and plunged the Moore residence into darkness; along with Lila’s mood.

“Why is it always so hot in here?” she complained, kicking off the covers.

“Maybe you’re hot, because you’re so hot,” he droned, maneuvering closer to her. Then he reached out for her.

“I’m not in the mood for that, Nick.” She scooted away from him.

His hand drifted to her backside, and she nudged him away.

“I said I’m not in the mood,” she snapped.

Nick plopped back against his pillow, fuming.

“You haven’t been in the mood for it all week,” he said. “On that same note, you’ve also been in a shitty mood all week. Penny for your thoughts?”

“Nothing. Nothing’s wrong. Just leave me alone.”

“I’ve just been tired, that’s all. It’s been a bad week.” She edged out of the bed.

Tell him… tell him… tell him, a voice chanted inside her head.

No, she thought, answering that voice.

“I’m sorry I’ve been grouchy all week,” she said.

“Me too,” Nick mumbled.

The next morning, Lila stopped her coach just outside the stadium. She had a few questions to ask him.

“Ryan, I have this friend… she’s actually one of the teammates. She thinks she might be pregnant, and she’s worried that if she really is pregnant, and if she tells you, you’ll fire her. Is that true?”

“Lila, are you trying to tell me something?” He laughed.

She wasn’t amused. “No. I was just wondering—”

“I’m afraid I’d have to let your friend go, yes. More specifically, paid leave. At least until after the baby’s born. Who’s ever heard of a pregnant woman playing soccer?” he said; then laughed again.

“Yeah. That’s what I thought.” A moment of silence passed, then she asked: “So when can we schedule my Lasik surgery?”

Days later, Lila lounged on a hospital gurney.

Ahhh. This will be the last time I’ll have to wear glasses.

With the emergence of October, brought the fiery changes of fall. Bright oranges lit up the Riverview landscape. At least some of the landscape…

Further changes marked the season. For instance, Audrey’s pregnancy was going smoothly as she entered her sixth month. Nick’s court date to finalize the divorce was just around the corner. Travis seemed to be adjusting well, at least on the outside. As for Lila, her Lasik surgery went without a hitch. She was thrilled to be free of her glasses.

As for the newest unborn baby, everything seemed to be going fine. However, Lila still hadn’t told Nick the news.

The day before Halloween was ‘Beggar’s Night’. Lila dressed up in costume and served candy to the various trick-or-treaters.

But there was one visitor she hadn’t expected.

“Trick or treat,” he said, hesitating in the doorway.

Lila started to speak, but closed her lips. He looked very familiar. Who was he?

Is it really him? That weird guy from Twinbrook? He looks a little different. Either way, what the hell was he doing here in Riverview? And trick-or-treating no less? And he actually has a CHILD?

“I’m sorry. I’m not usually this rude. I’ll just go get your candy real quick,” she said, turning to the candy dish.

“I thought you didn’t talk to strangers,” the man said.

Lila froze in front of the candy dish.

“Hi. I’m Darius. It’s nice to meet you,” he said stepping through the door. “This is my daughter Kayla.”

“Yeah. I—I’m sorry I was kinda rude to you during the game. Anyhow, I take it you live around here?” she asked.

“Yes, I’ve lived on Sycamore Street for a few years,” he said. “And it’s no problem about your rudeness. I got over it.”

“Uh, yeah. I’m glad.”

“Vampire, huh?” she said, breaking the uncomfortable quietness.

“Yeah. And you’re Cleopatra.”

“Well, I call it ‘Egyptian Goddess,” she quipped.

“Yeah. Goddess is about right,” he said.

“Wow… I don’t know whether to thank you or slap you,” she said.

“Pain doesn’t bother me,” he said. “Actually, I sorta like it.”

“Jeez, you really get into character in this get-up, don’t you?”

“Who says I’m just acting? And by the way, nice contacts.”

“Yeah, you too,” she said, turning again to throw candy into the bag. She handed it to him and said, “you’d better be going now. It’s getting late.”

“Sure. I’ll see you around sometime, Lila.”

She couldn’t help but peer out the window as he left.

Wait a minute, she thought. How did he know my name? I never told him…

Then she saw the evil trait at work.

He placed his daughter on the ground and stole her lollipop.

CPS, anyone?

An hour later, Nick returned home from trick-or-treating with Travis.

After Travis ran to his room and went to bed, Lila began cleaning up the mess of unused candy.

She could literally feel Nick’s eyes staring through her.

“Damn, you look fantastic,” he said. She could almost picture the drool dripping from his mouth; and with the guest before, she could picture blood dripping from his.

What was it about a full moon on Halloween that just made everyone crazy? And made the male species seem even more incredibly exciting??

“Thanks. Um, you look great too,” she said scurrying away… from… him…

Of course, she had to trip near the stairs.

“Oh, shoot!” she said.

Nick stood right behind her, watching. Before she knew it, he’d dropped to his knees and dove toward her…

“Oh, Nick don’t!” she protested as he grabbed her from behind. Then he spun her around and they fell onto the stairs.

“Nick,” she whispered.

“But it’s been so long,” he said, kissing her.

“You’re so damn hot,” he moaned, kissing every inch of her face.

Then his lips worked their way down to her neck…

…and back up again.

“Nick, we can’t do it on the stairs,” she said.

“Why not?”

“Because—my back is killing me.”

“Oh,” he said, kissing her and running his tongue across her lips. “I’m sorry about that. You just drive me crazy.”

Finally, Nick climbed off her.

“Nick?” she began.

“Would you bite me? On the neck?”

His eyes grew round.

Chapter 17 coming soon. Will Lila EVER tell Nick about the baby??? Maybe… and what will Doris do with her knowledge of the pregnancy? How will she use it against Lila? Or whatever plan she has, will it backfire?

And what about the mysterious Darius? What supernatural plane of hell has he come from? Or is he a being sent from heaven? Hehehehehehehe…
