Chapter Twenty-One…

Chapter 21: Mixed Nuts.

One flew over the cuckoo’s nest. Her name was Doris Moore.

As the full, glorious moon shone upon Riverview, Lila rested inside her hospital room.

Once again, she had dodged a bullet.

Audrey was the first to see her, Nick was the second.

“She has a few cracked ribs,” Dr. Garrison began, “but she’ll be fine. She was very lucky.”

“And the baby?” Nick quickly asked.

“Dr. Clopper did an ultrasound upon admittance, and the heartbeat was as strong as ever,” he replied. “It’s a small miracle.”

“More like a big one,” Audrey said, sighing in relief.

Lila stirred in her sleep. The smile on her face had something to do with the pain meds.

Darius Montgomery walked through the door.

“I got here as soon as I could. How is she? Is she okay?” he asked.

“What’s he doing here?” Nick asked.

“I told him about Lila,” Audrey said.

“If anyone should NOT be here, Nick, that would be you,” she sniped.

“I have a right to be here as much as anyone, Audrey—” he began.

“Is anyone going to tell me whether or not Lila’s okay?” Darius asked, his voice rising with each word.

Dr. Garrison explained Lila’s condition to him.

Owch! My back hurts!” Audrey suddenly shrieked. “I’ll be back. I gotta go home and rest for a couple hours.”

“Good riddance,” Nick muttered.

A few minutes later, Lila woke up. Before Nick had a chance to see her, Darius bolted to her bedside and sat.

“So your mother told me that some old lady ran over you?” he asked.

“Yeah. Isn’t that a gas?” she replied.

“How do you feel?”

“High. Very high. Yes, I feel good.”

“I’m glad you and the baby are okay. I’d better let Nick talk to you; he looks like he’s ready to tackle me, football style.”

“Well thanks for visiting,” she said.

“She’s all yours, man,” Darius mumbled as he strolled away.

Nick grunted.

“Hi, Nick.” Lila swung her legs over the edge of the bed.

I’d ask you how you feel, but I already overheard your answer to Darius,” he said smiling slightly. Then he sat on the bed.

“Lila, I’m so incredibly sorry about my mother.”

“It’s okay. It’s not your fault. You don’t need to apologize for her behavior.”

“You’ll be safe from now on,” Nick said. “She’s sitting in jail on 24 hour psych watch. After that, she’ll see a shrink and—be diagnosed as psychotic or whatever. She’ll probably be locked up in the psych ward for the rest of her life.”

“I’m sorry,” Lila said.

“Please don’t say that, I feel guilty as it is. You really have nothing to be sorry about.”

“She called me from jail, so I asked her why she did it. She did it because she was afraid I’d try to get back with you because of the baby. So she tried to kill the baby. She didn’t want me to make the same mistake I did 7 years ago. Get married for the sake of a child. She said she already got used to Auna, and didn’t want to get used to another… hussy.”

“But isn’t she the one who told you about the baby? Why would she do that?”

“She knew I’d find out sooner or later anyhow,” he said.

“I want you to come back and live with me, Lila. I can take care of you, and the baby. And, I know you’re not Travis’ real mother, but he also misses you.”

“Auna still lives there. Besides, I’m not ready for that. I already went out on a limb once, I won’t do it again.”

“But I’ll ask Auna to move out again. I can go back to court and fight for custody of Travis. This time, I’ll work harder in proving she’s unfit,” he begged.

“You should’ve thought of that before. I’m not going to do what Doris was afraid we’d do. I’m not shacking up just for our baby’s sake.”

Quietly, Nick rose from the bed and stood on the other side of the room… pouting.

“I miss Travis too,” she muttered to herself.

Then Dr. Clod entered the ER.

“Oh no you don’t!” she said. “N—nurses? Anyone? Get this man away from me! I won’t have him touching me!”

“For shit’s sake, I’m just going to listen to the baby’s heartbeat. It’ll just take a second,” he griped.

“Fine, but hurry up.” She returned to the bed.

Dr. Clod pulled a doppler device from his shirt pocket and began the procedure.

“I thought you already listened to the heartbeat?” she mentioned.

“I did. This is just a precaution.”

thump–thump–thump–thump. The hearbeat came in quick succession, echoing in the room. It sounded somewhat eerie.

Lila smiled.

“Yeah, everything still sounds good,” he said, switching off the device and tucking it in his pocket.

He leaned down and whispered: “don’t tell Nick about Auna and I.”

“Will you just get away from me?! Get out!” she shouted.

“Leave!”

“Lila, what’s wrong?” Nick asked, as Dr. Clod stepped out of the cubicle.

“Nothing! I—I just hate him!”

“I didn’t do anything to her,” Clopper said, as Nick glared at him accusingly.

“Um, I guess I’ll be going now. I have another patient to check on,” he added. Both Nick and Darius stared at him, as though preparing to attack.  😛

Lila was discharged the next morning.  Audrey helped her out of the hospital.

To their horror, a crowd of people formed near the entrance. A few were news reporters, and a camera was set up just a few feet away. Other cameras flashed as people took snapshots.

“Mother, what is all this?” Lila asked.

“I think they just revealed your identity on the news,” Audrey said.

SLUT!” some strange woman yelled as she passed by. However, it looked as though she were referring to Audrey, of all people…

In addition, Dr. Clod stood next to the cab and peered at the two women. A smug expression etched his face, as though he hadn’t a care in the world or hadn’t done anything wrong. Lila wanted to kill him.

Audrey and Lila fought their way through the gathering crowd, and quickly entered the cab.

  1. I am so glad Lila and the baby are ok. I hope she tells Nick about Auna and the doctor, it will wipe that smug look off his face lol 🙂

    • Hi Kim! Yeah, I wanted to do a cliff-hanger, but didn’t want to actually hurt them either. That would be too sad. Well, I was thinking about doing a chapter where Lila somehow blackmails the doctor. I’m not sure yet exactly how that would come about, though… 😉 But yeah, that’ll teach him. hehehe!!!

BTW: I don’t know why I call these chapters, they should really be called episodes, lol. Oh well.

      😀

  2. I don’t think it matters what you call them, they will be amazing either way 🙂

Yea that would be a great chapter, I would love it if he got what he deserves and Auna too 🙂

    • Awwww, seriously, thank you for all the great compliments. 😀 So awesome. 🙂

I think you have that one right on the nose 😉 The blackmailing will also somehow affect Auna, in a way that would help certain other sims… like a chain effect… No more info though! lol
